* despite the bawdy plot line we are assured this musical play is both fun and appropriate.
Michael John LaChuisa’s celebrated musical Hello Again takes the rendezvous made famous in Arthur Schnitzler’s controversial 1897 play, La Ronde, and gives them music so that they can sing and dance.
Set in New York across the entirety of the 20th Century, Hello again explores the human desire for connection.
The hypnotic musical rolls in and out of the different decades and the different love affairs of 10 characters, in a mery0go-round of sexual encounters. From the soldier and the prostitute to the Soldier and the nurse, and the nurse and the college boy – each of the characters slip in and out of one another’s arms in pursuit of the same goal; to align, to fill a void, to be other than alone.
Almost 35 years since it debuted at the Lincoln Centre, New York, coinciding with the launch of the new film version, Hello Again is a poignant and funny look at loves bittersweet, elusive embrace, often revealing the chasm between love and lust.
