The Council of the Harvard Club of Victoria, is delighted to invite
Harvard Club of Australia members
and guests to the club's annual dinner in support of the Non-Profit Fellowship, immediately after the Annual General Meeting, on Thursday 19th October.
We are excited to announce that our guest speaker will be Professor Brian P. Schmidt AC.
Professor Schmidt is the 12th Vice-Chancellor of The Australian National University (ANU). He was awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize for Physics for his discovery of dark energy, a repulsive force that is the dominant component (70 percent) of the universe. He shared the prize with American physicist Saul Perlmutter and astronomer Adam Riess.
Professor Schmidt received undergraduate degrees in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Arizona in 1989, and completed his Astronomy Master's degree (1992) and PhD (1993) from Harvard University. Under his leadership, in 1998, the High-Z Supernova Search team made the startling discovery that the expansion rate of the Universe is accelerating. Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, The United States Academy of Science, and the Royal Society, he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2013.
We will also hear from 2017 HCV Fellow Gerard Brody, CEO of the Consumer Action Law Centre. Gerard will share his experiences at Harvard and that of the other recipients Teresa Jayet from Mallee Family Care and Dr Robyn Miller from MacKillop Family Services.
The program will also include a wonderful auction and raffle with priceless items in support of the Non-Profit Fellowship.
Catch up with old friends and meet new members of the Harvard community at the Club’s biggest event of the year. It is a warm and welcoming event, with alums attending from almost every school of the University.
